QUEBEC - Connor McDavid is not only good at hockey, it seems he can also predict the future.
The 18-year-old, likely to go first overall in the NHL draft, got a look at Kelowna Rockets star Leon Draisaitl while watching the Memorial Cup semifinal Friday night at the Pepsi Colisee.
McDavid spoke to reporters in the first intermission, moments after Draisaitl hit the post from the slot with the Quebec Remparts net gaping open.
"He's been unbelievable all season long," said McDavid. "I think he'll want that chance back he had in the slot, but a guy like that is not going to miss very often.
"If Quebec's going to give him more chances he'll get a couple."
Draisaitl scored only 17 seconds into the second period and then assisted on Justin Kirkland's goal three minutes later.
The Edmonton Oilers are almost certain to pick McDavid with the No. 1 pick. Draisaitl was selected third overall by the Oilers last June.
Asked if he was watching a future teammate, McDavid would only say: "Ha, I don't know. We'll see."
The winner advances to the final on Sunday against the Oshawa Generals, who beat McDavid's Erie Otters in the Ontario Hockey League final.
"They'e a great team and they certainly deserve to be there," McDavid said of the Generals.
McDavid was in Quebec City to attend the Canadian junior hockey awards ceremonies on Saturday, where he is a candidate for player of the year, top draft prospect and scholastic player of the year honours.
He also got to see the game delayed when fans rained cups and paper onto the ice after a Madison Bowey hit from behind on Jerome Verrier went uncalled by the officials.
