TORONTO - Jose Bautista and Justin Smoak both had solo home runs to lift the Toronto Blue Jays over the Baltimore Orioles 4-0 on Wednesday.

Marcus Stroman (8-4 ) was superb for Toronto (37-40), striking out eight in 7 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and issuing just one walk. Relievers Danny Barnes and Roberto Osuna closed out the game for the Blue Jays.

Bautista drove in another run and set up an unearned run with a fielder's choice in the fourth.

Wade Miley (3-6) gave up four runs - three earned - and struck out five in five innings of work as Baltimore (38-39) had a three-game win streak snapped. Alec Asher pitched three innings of scoreless relief for the Orioles.

Bautista led off the game in the first inning with a rare home run to right field, backing Seth Smith up to the wall for a 1-0 lead. He hadn't hit a home run to the opposite field since Sept. 12, 2015, in a 12-5 victory over the New York Yankees.

Smoak added to Toronto's lead with a homer to dead centre in the bottom of the fourth. It was Smoak's 21st of the season, a new career high for the eight-year veteran.

INDIANS 5, RANGERS 3

CLEVELAND - Trevor Bauer pitched into the seventh inning, Michael Brantley drove in two runs and Cleveland got the win in manager Terry Francona's return to the team.

Francona was cleared to come back after another health scare forced him to leave Monday's game and miss Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Texas. The 58-year-old Francona has been fitted with a heart monitor, but he said doctors have ruled out any serious health issues.

Bauer (7-6) allowed one run - Robinson Chirinos' homer - and four hits in 6 1/3 innings. Brantley had RBI singles in the third and the seventh.

Texas ace Yu Darvish (6-6) gave up three runs - two earned - in six innings.

HOUSTON - Josh Reddick and George Springer had three hits apiece and combined for five RBIs, powering Houston to the victory.

Michael Feliz (4-1) struck out two in a scoreless fifth for the win. Ken Giles struck out two in the ninth for his 18th save.

The Astros jumped in front with five runs in the third. Springer hit an RBI double and scored on Reddick's base hit, helping Houston open a 9-5 lead.

Oakland right-hander Jesse Hahn was charged with six runs and nine hits in two-plus innings.

Khris Davis homered twice and drove in four runs for the A's. Ryon Healy, Matt Olson and Jed Lowrie also went deep.

METS 8, MARLINS 0

MIAMI - Steven Matz pitched seven innings and two relievers completed a seven-hitter, helping the Mets to the victory.

Asdrubal Cabrera and Curtis Granderson each hit a two-run homer in support of Matz (2-1), who allowed six hits, all singles, and one walk while lowering his ERA to 2.67 in four starts this year.

Matz's performance gave the rotation a welcome lift hours after right-hander Robert Gsellman became the sixth Mets starting pitcher to go on the disabled list this season. Gsellman strained his left hamstring Tuesday.

Jeff Locke (0-4) allowed three runs, all in a 32-pitch first inning, but settled down to last 5 2/3 innings. He retired 12 in a row after his rocky start but fell to 0-3 with a 6.20 ERA in five career starts against the Mets.

REDS 4, BREWERS 3

CINCINNATI - Scooter Gennett hit a two-run homer against the club that decided he no longer fit its rebuilding plans, and Billy Hamilton scored the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning for Cincinnati.

The Brewers lost starter Chase Anderson to a strained oblique. Anderson hurt his left side while striking out in the top of the second inning, a notable setback to the NL Central leaders. He is second on the club with six wins.

After Travis Shaw tied it at 3 in the eighth with a solo homer off Drew Storen (2-2), Hamilton led off the bottom of the inning with a walk and two steals off Corey Knebel (0-1). Hamilton scored on Adam Duvall's infield single.

The game ended on an unusual play. With runners at first and third, Raisel Iglesias fanned Jesus Aguilar for the second out, and Stephen Vogt was caught trying to take second before Jonathan Villar could make it home from third on the back end of the attempted double steal. Iglesias got his 14th save in 15 chances.

TWINS 4, RED SOX 1

BOSTON - Adalberto Mejia pitched 5 2/3 innings in his second straight scoreless start, Max Kepler hit a two-run homer and Minnesota rebounded from two consecutive losses against Boston.

Mejia (3-3) allowed five hits, struck out three and walked one. Brandon Kintzler got the final three outs for his 21st save.

Boston starter Rick Porcello (4-10) gave up four runs and six hits in six innings.

ROYALS 8, TIGERS 2

Ian Kennedy (2-6) allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings for the Royals, earning his second victory in three starts. He gave up solo homers to Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila, but only after Kansas City had jumped to a 5-0 lead.

Detroit's Daniel Norris (4-6) permitted five runs and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. Six of those hits came in the fourth.

The Royals snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 16-8 in June.

PIRATES 6, RAYS 2

PITTSBURGH - Jose Osuna doubled twice and drove in two runs, rookie Josh Bell hit his 15th homer and Pittsburgh jumped all over Tampa Bay's Blake Snell.

Osuna's ground-rule RBI double sparked a four-run rally with two out in the first. Bell led off the fourth with a home run and Osuna added another RBI double in the fifth.

Snell (0-5) walked five in five innings in his return to the starting rotation after a stint in Triple-A. He was charged with six runs and four hits.

Ivan Nova (8-5) struggled with his command and failed to work into the sixth for the first time this season but picked up the win despite allowing seven hits and two walks in five innings.

Tampa Bay went 2 for 13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.

PHILLIES 5, MARINERS 4

SEATTLE - Tommy Joseph led off the ninth inning with his 13th homer and Andrew Knapp added a two-out RBI single, helping the Phillies rally for the road win.

Joseph's drive to left on a 3-2 pitch from Edwin Diaz (2-3) was Philadelphia's first hit since the third inning. Diaz struck out the next two batters, but Cameron Perkins walked and advanced on a balk before Knapp lined a 1-2 pitch into right field to give the Phillies the lead.

Ricardo Pinto (1-0) pitched three innings of relief to get the win and Hector Neris got three outs for his seventh save.

Robinson Cano, Kyle Seager and Danny Valencia homered for Seattle, which went 5-4 on a nine-game homestand after winning the first five games.

GIANTS 5, ROCKIES 3

SAN FRANCISCO - Jae-Gyun Hwang homered in his major league debut, a tiebreaking drive in the sixth inning that helped the Giants extend the Rockies' losing streak to a season-high eight games.

The 29-year-old Hwang grounded out in the second inning, hit a run-scoring grounder in the fourth that cut Colorado's lead to 2-1, and then broke a 3-3 tie when he homered against Kyle Freeland (8-6). Hwang was given a standing ovation from fans as he rounded the bases and was mobbed by teammates when he got back to the dugout.

San Francisco's Ty Blach (5-5) gave up three runs - one earned - and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings, George Kontos, Steven Okert and Hunter Stickland combined for one-hit relief. Strickland retired Ian Desmond, his only batter, on a flyout for his first save this season.

Nolan Arenado hit a two-run single for Colorado in the first. The third baseman also made an outstanding diving play on Blach's third-inning grounder before throwing him out from a near-sitting position.
