TORONTO -- The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without starting netminder Frederik Andersen when they host Florida on Tuesday night.

Curtis McElhinney will get the start against the Panthers, and Andersen is listed as day-to-day with an upper body injury following a brief 20 minutes of practice on Monday morning.

Andersen left Saturday's 5-2 loss against the Buffalo Sabres after only a period under a cloud of mystery. He revealed after Monday's practice that he didn't feel quite right after getting bumped early in the game. He was lifted following consultation with doctors.

The 27-year-old wasn't sure when he would be available to return and wouldn't say if he was suffering from concussion-related symptoms.

He left Monday's session after Mastercard Centre after 20 minutes, according to plan.

Garret Sparks, who was recalled on emergency basis from the Toronto Marlies, also practised Monday and will likely back up McElhinney against the Panthers.

McElhinney gave up three goals on 22 shots in Andersen's place against the Sabres.

The 33-year-old has a .919 save percentage in 10 games with the Leafs.

"I'll just prepare the same way that I've been doing all year long," McElhinney told reporters on Saturday. "It's a good opportunity regardless of what happens with Fred right now so, you know, just go in and get a couple days of practice and get ready."

Finnish prospect Kasperi Kapanen was also an unexpected participant in the Monday practice at Mastercard Centre and will join the team's fourth line against Florida. Kapanen has 18 goals and 43 points in 43 games for the AHL's Toronto Marlies this season.

Toronto enters Monday's action holding onto third in the Atlantic division, one point up on Boston with a game in hand.
