DAVOS, Switzerland -- The head of the Italian Olympic Committee says he is confident about Rome's chances of hosting the 2024 Games after discussing the bid with IOC President Thomas Bach.

CONI chief Giovanni Malago and Italian Premier Matteo Renzi met with Bach at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday.

Malago says securing the Olympics "will be very complicated but we are optimistic."

Rome's bid for the 2020 Games was scrapped by former Italian Premier Mario Monti two years ago because of financial concerns.

Rome and Boston are the only declared bidders for the 2024 Games so far. Germany will decide between Berlin and Hamburg as its candidate. Paris is among others also weighing a bid.

Malago says he will have another meeting with Bach next month, when the bid committee will be announced.
