KAMPALA, Uganda -- The Uganda Athletics Federation says it is investigating claims made by Commonwealth Games 10,000-metre champion Moses Kipsiro that he received a death threat from a coach, causing him to withdraw from the cross-country world championships in China.
UFA president Dominic Otuchet says the federation and police are looking into the matter, but says Kipsiro faces disciplinary action if it is found he lied.
Kipsiro said last week that he received the threat on his cellphone and blamed local coach Peter Wemali. Wemali denied the charge and police say they have not received a formal complaint from Kipsiro.
Police said Wednesday they had arrested a cousin of Kipsiro on suspicion of arson after Wemali's house was set on fire.
Kipsiro retained his 10,000-metre title at last year's Commonwealth Games.
