Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban was stretchered off the ice and taken to hospital with a neck injury after falling awkwardly during Thursday's 3-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres.
Subban went into the corner of his own zone with Buffalo's Marcus Foligno with less than three minutes to play in the third period. He fell to his knees on a harmless looking play but then appeared to hit his head on the leg of teammate Alexei Emelin.
Subban dropped to the ice and grabbed the back of his head. He lay on the ice for eight minutes as trainers tended to him.
The Canadiens said Subban had been taken to a hospital for further testing and said he had normal movement in his extremities.
Subban looked to be alert when he was carried off the ice.
