S-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands -- Vancouver's Vasek Pospisil was eliminated from the second round of the Topshelf Open on Wednesday, losing 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (6) to Gilles Muller of Luxembourg.

Ninth-seeded Pospisil faced break point six times in the match but saved five of those opportunities. But he had only one chance to break Muller, who went on to win the match in two hours seven minutes.

Pospisil hit 15 aces in the match to Muller's 14.

Muller moves on to the quarter-finals and will next face Romania's Marius Copil, who upset fourth seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.

Fifth-seeded Ivo Karlovic of Croatia smacked 25 aces as he beat Tatsuma Ito of Japan 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3) to reach the quarter-finals.

There, he'll face local favourite Robin Haase, who beat seventh-seeded Fernando Verdasco of Spain 7-6 (4), 6-3.

Verdasco had 10 aces, but lost the only service game of the second-round match.

In women's play, third-seeded Coco Vandeweghe of the United States; No. 5 Camila Giorgi of Italy, and No. 7 Kristina Mladenovic of France reached the last eight.

Vandeweghe won 7-5, 6-4 against Tatjana Maria; Mladenovic rallied past Kurumi Nara 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-3, and Giorgi withstood 21 aces from Michaella Krajicek in a 6-7 (2), 6-2, 6-4 win.

Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan, who eliminated top-seeded Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., in the first round, beat Marina Erakovic of New Zealand 6-4, 6-4.

In men's doubles, the second-seeded team of Toronto's Daniel Nestor and Leander Paes of India fell 6-4, 7-6 (7) to the French duo of Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut.
