A 13-year-old boy from Alberta says he will never forget his week on the greens in Georgia, where he worked as a caddie for pro-golfer Kevin Streelman.

Ethan Couch of Spruce Grove, Alta., learned he was granted a trip to the Masters Golf Tournament by Make-A-Wish Foundation the day after his recent emergency surgery.

Couch has a brain tumour that was causing him pain and balance problems. “He couldn’t put his tee in the ground,” recalls Jennifer Streelman, the mother in a golf-obsessed family.

The surgery removed the pressure on his brain, but he still needs regular MRI tests to watch the tumour, which can’t be removed due to its sensitive location.

Couch says Streelman was so kind that he even let him take a shot at the ninth hole at the famed Augusta National Golf Club.

“I was really nervous, my hands were sweaty and I chunked into the water,” he says, “but I was just happy I didn’t chuck his club into the lake.”

Couch says he hopes to one day return to the Masters tournament -- not as a caddie, but as a competitor.
