CARACAS, Venezuela - American actor Sean Penn is criticizing Republican candidates during a visit to Venezuela, saying that right-wing policies in the United States aim to benefit the wealthy.
Penn made the remarks after a meeting with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. The actor has visited Venezuela several times and has a friendly relationship with the leftist leader.
Talking with reporters on Thursday, Penn was asked about the criticisms of Chavez raised by some Republican candidates. He said he doesn't think "those exploitive sort of demonizations will be very beneficial to this crew of the candidates."
Penn also said "the policies of the far right are the policies of the rich."
