A NASA drone flew directly over Hurricane Edouard in September, capturing footage of the eye of the storm.

The 57-second clip shows clouds churning over the Atlantic Ocean, spinning like a slow-motion whirlpool at the centre.

Edouard was the first major hurricane of 2014, becoming a Category 3 storm on Sept. 16. Two men drowned off the coast of Ocean City, Maryland due to strong currents, but the storm never posed a threat to land, NASA said.
