Bing.ca released their 2012 end-of-year search results Tuesday and, according to the Internet search engine, it was a year of Bieber, heartbreak and babies.
Justin Bieber -- the international pop superstar who hails from Stratford, Ont. -- claimed the title spot of most-searched celebrity. The 18-year-old ousted reality TV star Kim Kardashian from the top spot.
Kardashian, who stars in the series “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” slipped from 2011’s first place to third place this year.
Other celebrities who made the Top 10 list include the newly-engaged Miley Cyrus (#2), Bieber’s girlfriend Selena Gomez (#4), and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton (#5).
Also on the list was “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart, whose on-again off-again relationship with co-star Robert Pattison continues to draw both the adoration and ire of fans.
According to Bing.ca, the two were the second most-searched celebrity couple, coming just behind the newly-divorced Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.
Cruise and Holmes, or “TomKat” as they are commonly called, divorced in July after six years of marriage. Bieber and Gomez, who do not yet have a combined nickname, came in third place.
On the list of the most-searched musicians, Whitney Houston came in at number one. Houston, who topped the charts in the 80s and early 90s, accidentally drowned in a bathtub in a Beverly Hills hotel room last February.
Bieber, who released his third album “Believe” in June, was the second most-searched musician.
In terms of top celebrity events, baby news continued to make headlines. The baby bumps of Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Garner and Kourtney Kardashian all made the Top 5 most-searched celebrity events, according to Bing.ca.
In terms of the most-searched videos, Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen’s video for her single “Call Me Maybe” reigned supreme. The video on YouTube has garnered more than 340 million views. Jepsen’s catchy pop tune beat out South Korean rapper Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” which also made the list.
Meanwhile, the “Gangnam Style” video recently became the most-watched video on YouTube and has inspired countless imitations.
