A Twitter user played what some are calling the "best Twitter joke" ever, by completing a tweet five years after starting to compose it.

An account under the name Frank Furter (handle @DrFNFurter) completed the tweet last week, exactly five years after starting to write it.

The account holder had initially tweeted "I see you shiver with antici …" on May 8, 2009.

And then last Thursday, the account holder tweeted "…pation."

The tweets reference the lyrics from the song "Sweet Transvestite," which is featured in the 1975 cult movie "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." In the film, one of the main characters is a transvestite named Dr. Frank N. Furter, played by actor Tim Curry.

The tweets have been widely shared on Twitter, garnering more than 40,000 retweets as of Tuesday morning. Other Twitter users are praising Frank Furter for a joke well played.

"Best Twitter joke possibly ever. Five years in the making. Well done," user Dandy McFopperson tweeted.

User Joe D'Angelo tweeted: "Hands down @DrFNFurter has won the Internet. Five years to finish a tweet. Unbelievable."

Despite only tweeting four times since 2009, the account now has more than 2,000 followers.

Twitter has spawned several popular joke and parody accounts, including fake accounts purporting to represent God, actress Tilda Swinton and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The company allows users to create parody accounts impersonating others, so long as the user takes steps to identify the account as a fake one.
