The RCMP has laid 31 charges, including fraud and breach of trust, against suspended senator Mike Duffy. The charges relate to four “investigative avenues,” the force said when announcing the results of its investigation.

Here is the complete list of charges, and how they fit into each category:

  • One count each of fraud over $5,000 and breach of trust in relation to his residency expense claims. The total amount of the alleged fraud is $90,000.
  • Five counts of fraud under $5,000, four counts of fraud over $5,000 and nine counts of breach of trust in relation to his expense claims unrelated to Senate business. The total amount of the alleged fraud exceeds $50,000, the RCMP said.
  • Two counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of fraud under $5,000 and four counts of breach of trust in relation to the awarding of consulting contracts over a four-year period. The RCMP alleges that Duffy then used “part of the funds from those contracts for personal gain or for expenses which circumvent Senate oversight.” The total amount of the alleged fraud exceeds $60,000, the force said.
  • One count each of bribery of a judicial officer, frauds on the government, and breach of trust in relation to the $90,000 cheque from Wright to prepay the residency expense claims.
