WINNIPEG - Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger has officially launched his campaign to keep his job.

Selinger filed nomination papers this afternoon for the NDP leadership race that has been forced upon him by a caucus revolt.

Selinger admits it's an unusual situation, but he is trying to make the process as democratic as possible.

He says the campaign, for him, is a much lower priority than governing the province.

He says he will focus his time and energy on government business.

Selinger has been under fire since raising the provincial sales tax in 2013, and five of his most senior cabinet ministers resigned last year after suggesting he resign.

One of those former ministers, Theresa Oswald, was the first candidate to enter the leadership race.

Steve Ashton, a former minister of infrastructure and transportation, has also thrown his hat in the ring.

NDP delegates will vote on the leadership March 8th.
