Linda McMahon, the Republican who helped transform World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. into a multi-billion dollar company, has suffered a costly second-straight loss in the Connecticut Senate race.

McMahon has spent close to $100 million of her own money in failed bids for a Senate seat.

She was defeated by Richard Blumenthal in 2010 and again by Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy Tuesday night.

McMahon, who ran WWE with her husband, Vince McMahon, for years before turning her attention to politics, spent about $42 million trying to get elected this year.

In 2010, she spent $50 million on her campaign.

But she told supporters Tuesday night that she had “no regrets.”

“It was an incredibly well-run, hard-fought race.”
