OTTAWA -- Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird is telling Zimbabwe's visiting finance minister that Canada isn't quite ready to ease sanctions against the southern African country.
Spokesman Rick Roth says that was made clear during a private meeting between Baird and Tendai Biti.
Roth says the sanctions are always under review.
He says Biti gave Baird an update on financial and political reforms in Zimbabwe.
Baird said Canada wants to see Zimbabwe's new constitution finalized and wants fair and free elections in the troubled country.
Zimbabwe currently is governed by a coalition government formed a year after the country went through violent and inconclusive elections in 2008.
