WINNIPEG - An inquiry into the murder of a five-year-old Manitoba girl won't start hearing testimony until next May.

That's two months after the deadline given to the inquiry commission for a final report into Phoenix Sinclair's death.

The commission says it took time to get court permission to get child welfare documents it needed.

The commission says it will spend the next few months going through the paperwork, drawing up a list of witnesses and interviewing them.

Commissioner Ted Hughes is expected to start hearing testimony May 22.

Phoenix died in 2005 after repeated abuse by her mother Samantha Kematch and stepfather Karl McKay.
