A man in his 50s died in hospital after being pulled from the swimming pool at Carleton University on Sunday evening. Emergency crews responded to a call for a person in distress in the pool at approximately 8 p.m. Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps says the man experienced cardiac arrest while in the pool, and he was rescued by a lifeguard. The lifeguard and a Carleton University campus security guard performed CPR until paramedics arrived to continue providing care. Deschamps says the victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The Ottawa Police Service told CTV News Ottawa the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital on Sunday evening In a statement, Carleton University acknowledged a “critical incident” at the pool Sunday evening. “Staff followed established safety and emergency response protocols, and the matter is currently being handled by the Ottawa Police Service,” police said.
