Ottawa police say a deceased person was found in the Rideau River Sunday afternoon. Police say a kayaker discovered the body just before 1:30 p.m. in the river north of Smyth Road. An operation is underway to recover the body, police say. “We have not identified the person yet and will communicate with their family first,” Ottawa police said in a post on social media. Ottawa Fire Service water rescue crews and police were seen in the area. A paramedics spokesperson confirms they responded to the scene. It’s the second body of a deceased person to be located in Ottawa this weekend. Ottawa police are investigating after a body was found in the waters of the Ottawa River near Bate Island Saturday. No further details of that case have been announced but police do not believe the death is suspicious.
