What police called an “isolated incident” which prompted a large police presence on Diane Street in Greater Sudbury on Sunday afternoon has been resolved. In a social media post shortly before 6:15 p.m., police confirmed the situation had concluded. “The incident on Diane Street has resolved,” the Greater Sudbury Police Service wrote. “It was an isolated incident with no risk to public safety.” “We appreciate the community’s patience when we are dealing with incidents,” police added. Initial response Police first announced an increased police presence in the area shortly after 5 p.m. on April 5. “We ask members of the public to avoid the area until (the) investigation (is) concluded,” the service said in its earlier social media post. Unconfirmed reports of gunfire CTV News has received unconfirmed reports that residents heard what sounded like gunshots in the area earlier in the afternoon. The details of the police investigation nor an explanation for the heavy police presence have released by authorities. CTV News has reached out to Greater Sudbury police for more information on the nature of the investigation and reason for the police presence but has yet to receive a response.
