SANTIAGO, Chile - A 5.1-magnitude temblor has shaken awake residents of Chile's capital, but no damage or injuries have been reported.

The US Geological Survey reports that the earthquake occurred Saturday at 4:28 a.m. local time, or 0728 GMT. It was centred in the Chile's metropolitan region, at a depth of 66.7 kilometres.

The University of Chile's seismological service measured the quake as stronger, with a 5.3 magnitude.

The Chilean government's National Emergency Office says no injuries or damage have been reported, and basic services have not been affected.
