Montreal firefighters were in the Saint-Leonard borough on Wednesday morning, dealing with a duplex fire that forced a number of residents out of their homes. Montreal firefighters responded to the call at 9:17 a.m. to the blaze on Lacordaire Boulevard near Galets Street. Montreal fire department (SIM) spokesperson William Murray said the fire started in a car in the garage of the duplex and spread. “There are two families that had to be evacuated,” said Murray, who added that the Red Cross was called to accommodate those forced out of their homes. “Nobody’s hurt and the cause of the fire is unknown,” said Murray. Though the scene is contained, crews remain on site to analyze the fire to try to determine the causes and circumstances that led to the blaze. The investigation is ongoing.
