A U.S. burglary suspect who taunted law authorities openly on social media has been arrested, with the sheriff's office crediting Facebook and Twitter users for "helping turn up the heat."

On Monday, the Butler County Sheriff's Office in Ohio posted on its Facebook page about suspect Andrew Dale Marcum, 21, who was wanted on several warrants. According to the post, Marcum's criminal past includes burglary, abduction, assault, domestic violence and criminal endangering.

A Facebook account appearing to belong to Marcum commented on the post, mocking officers. "I ain't tripping half of them don't even know me," the post read.

The online feud escalated from there, when Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones tweeted a photo of an empty jail cell and a warning for Marcum, that police had his "room ready."

Jones continued sending out online warnings, tweeting that police were closing in on Marcum.

Then on Tuesday night, the sheriff tweeted out a mug shot of Marcum with the word "captured" scrawled across the bottom in red.

He also announced the arrest on Facebook.

In a subsequent tweet, Jones noted that Marcum appeared to be crying in the photo. "Is it raining outside or is he teared up. Tough guys sometime sensitive," he said.
