Four members of a B.C. university’s wrestling team have been suspended from competition amid misconduct allegations, CTV News has learned.

The University of the Fraser Valley says it’s investigating the conduct of four wrestlers during a recent event in Calgary.

The wrestlers were suspended after the Canada West Wrestling Championships, which took place in Calgary earlier this month.

A Calgary police spokesperson says the force did not receive any reports or complaints from that weekend.

The team, dubbed the UFV Cascades, is among the top-ranked wrestling teams in the country. They won bronze at the Calgary competition.

The suspension forced the student athletes to sit out the national wrestling championships in Edmonton this weekend.

“I’m not going to comment at this time,” team coach Arjan Bhullar told CTV News. “The university’s asked us to wait until the investigation plays out.”

In a statement, University of the Fraser Valley spokesperson David Pinton said it takes any allegations under its conduct policy “very seriously.”

“As is standard practice, and with adherence to privacy legislation, the University cannot comment on any ongoing conduct policy investigation,” Pinton said.

The investigation could clear them of allegations of misconduct, or the student wrestlers could be subject to a resolution meeting or hearing. Penalties could include a reprimand or even expulsion from the university.
