LONDON -- The English Football Association has charged third-tier club Gillingham over allegedly racially victimizing a player who was fired.
An employment tribunal has already ruled that Mark McCammon, who is black, was unfairly dismissed by Gillingham in 2011 after being racially victimized.
Now the FA says Gillingham and chairman Paul Scally have been charged, alleging "they failed to act in the best interests of the game, and/or brought the game into disrepute by committing an act of race victimization by dismissing Mark McCammon."
McCammon has previously told the employment tribunal he was ordered to come to the ground in "treacherous" snowy driving conditions while some white players were told they were not required. He also said the club tried to refuse to pay medical bills as he recovered from an injury.
