If you thought there was hope for the future of music, cast it aside now.

A mind-blowing (or mind-numbing) new viral video is sweeping across the interwebs this week, captivating millions with its bizarre combination of three invisible objects: a pen, an apple and a pineapple.

The video is called "PPAP Pen Pineapple Apple Pen," and some are already calling it the next "Gangnam Style" for its catchy rhythm and quirky singer, a character called Piko-Taro.

Created by Japanese comedian and DJ Kosaka Daimaou, the video is massively popular in Asia, and is now taking root in the West. Justin Bieber himself tweeted about it earlier this week, calling it his "favourite video on the internet."

One version of the video posted to YouTube has nearly 20 million views. Another has racked up an additional three million.

The 51-second "music" video shows Kosaka Daimaou, as his alter-ego Piko-Taro, singing, miming and awkwardly dancing through an electronic-style song about pens, apples and pineapples. Set against a blank white background, the video shows Daimaou wearing a snakeskin-patterned dress shirt and pants, with a leopard-print scarf and a gold chain around his neck. He's also sporting a poorly-attached wig, sunglasses and a pencil-thin (pen-thin?) moustache.

The inspired lyrics go something like this: "I have a pen. I have a apple. Uh! Apple pen! I have a pen. I have pineapple. Uh! Pineapple pen!"

Jumble those words around and you can come up with the remainder of the song's lyrics.

There's not much more to say about it. But click the video below, and you run the risk of saying "pen, apple, pineapple pen" all day.
