KAPUSKASING, Ont. - The wreckage of small plane that went missing 23 years ago has been found near Kapuskasing in northern Ontario.

Ontario Provincial Police say they found the wreckage of a single engine aircraft in a remote area and confirmed it was that of a plane reported missing in April of 1992.

Police say Paul and Suzanne Joanis were flying from the Buttonville Airport near Toronto to Hearst, about 90 kilometres west of Kapuskasing, when contact was lost with their plane.

A search at the time failed to find them.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada and the coroner's office have been called to investigate.
