Greg Lapierre couldn't believe his eyes when a 1969 Plymouth Barracuda rolled up on his driveway last week.

The Hammonds Plains, N.S., father of two -- who has been battling cancer for more than a year -- was met with the surprise last Thursday thanks to his wife Holly Lapierre and his life-long best friend Jamie Sullivan.

"It just blew me away! It's just one of those things, it's a dream come true. Even a regular Barracuda is one thing, but with the convertible top and the 4-speed it makes it that much more rare," Lapierre said.

Sullivan knew his best pal had been coveting the Barracuda muscle car for years.

Lapierre said that if he ever won the lottery he was going to buy the Barracuda.

When Sullivan saw Lapierre eye-balling the Barracuda on a B.C. Craigslist post, he told Holly right away.

She arranged for the car to be secretly shipped to their home.

When the car arrived, Holly told her husband to look at the registration in the glove box.

"I saw Holly's name in the registration and after that I was just zoned right out," Lapierre said.

"He was so flabbergasted we had to tell him three times he owned the car," Holly said.

Lapierre has driven more than 30 hours and put more than 1,000 kilometres on the Barracuda since the car arrived at his house.

"Let’s just say the word cancer wasn't mentioned for a couple of days," Holly said.

The entire surprise was recorded on video.

"I'm glad she videotaped it because I don't remember most of it," Greg said.
