REGINA -- More than 50 medical procedures had to be postponed or moved because parts of Pasqua Hospital in Regina were damaged due to a burst water pipe.

The Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region says the pipe burst Wednesday night in the gastrointestinal unit of the hospital.

It says damage was done to the unit as well as to areas in the floors beneath, including the medical surveillance unit, the cardiac function clinic and radiology.

Dr. David McCutcheon, vice-president of physician and health services, says several departments were working together to clean and repair the affected areas.

He says the G.I. Unit was expected to be operational by Friday morning, although work was to continue in one room on the unit due to more extensive damage.

The procedures, which included endoscopies, heart failure clinic appointments and CT scans, were to be rescheduled in the next two weeks.

"The safety of our patients is of the utmost importance to us. We apologize profusely for this sudden need to postpone or move their procedures, and ask for their understanding," McCutcheon said.

"We know last-minute changes or postponements are difficult for patients."
