A suspect arrested on Wednesday in connection with the killing of a Manitoba teen was released one day later without charges.

Leah Anderson was killed in Gods Lake Narrows, Man. in 2013 when she was 15 years old. Manitoba RCMP confirmed Thursday the 23-year-old man who was arrested was later released without charges.

RCMP originally called the arrest significant but did not release any details about the man’s release.

Earlier this month, police issued a plea on social media for anyone with information to come forward. They have also tested DNA samples from people in the community and conducted lie detector tests.

Anderson disappeared in January of 2013 in the isolated reserve, 550 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg. Her body was found on a trail two days later in such bad condition that police originally thought she had been attacked by an animal. Investigators later concluded she had been beaten to death.

Earlier this month, police also said they had narrowed down suspects and determined that Anderson’s killer was a male and lived in the community.
