A Quebec family nearly bit off more than they could chew when they discovered blade fragments in their baguette at the dinner table.

The mother of the family says her daughter was about to eat a piece of the baguette when everyone at the table noticed a chunk of metal in it. They stopped the girl, split the baguette open and found the blades inside.

The baguette was purchased at an IGA grocery store in Pointe-Claire and produced by Premiere Moisson, an artisanal bread supplier.

A Premiere Moisson spokesperson says the blades appear to have been baked into the bread by accident, and were likely left behind by a damaged dough cutter in the factory.

Premiere Moisson says it halted production at its Laval facility to investigate the mishap.

"This is an isolated case and we took immediate preventive measures to remove all products from this production run," the company said in a tweet on Monday. Premiere Moisson says it halted baking operations at its Laval facility for an internal investigation on Monday morning. Production resumed later in the day.

A Premiere Moisson spokesperson says the company has been in touch with the family.
