Halifax Police have released three people from custody without charges after a potential threat shut down a mall in suburban Dartmouth Tuesday morning.

In a statement Tuesday night, police said the two men and one woman were “co-operative” and investigators “do not believe at this time that they were involved in this matter.

“As a result, they were released without charge.”

Police also said there was “no information to suggest continued threats” to Mic Mac Mall.

Police said they had received information about a potential threat to the mall at 9 a.m. Tuesday.  About 2 ½ hours later, the mall announced it was closing for the day. It will reopen on Wednesday.

There was a large police response both at the Mic Mac Mall and at a house in Dartmouth, where officers surrounded the property with guns drawn.

“They just told me to stay away from the windows,” neighbour Carrie Kempton told CTV Atlantic. “Don’t come outside or anything.”

The officers eventually entered the house, but found nothing. The three arrests were made at a Halifax apartment building Tuesday afternoon.

As a result of police activity, the Halifax Regional School Board placed two of its schools on "hold and secure,” but the lockdowns were lifted by mid-afternoon.

Last month, two people were charged with conspiracy to commit murder at the Halifax Shopping Centre in an alleged plot to shoot and kill a large number of people on Valentine's Day.
