The family of an Ontario teen who was killed after tracking his missing cellphone last month is thanking police for their efforts in the ongoing investigation.

Cook, originally of Brampton, Ont., lost his cellphone after leaving it in a taxi cab. On June 14, he used a phone-tracking app to find its location. The app took the 18-year-old to a parking lot in London, Ont. where police say three men were sitting in a silver 2004 Mazda.

Police said the car attempted to drive away, but Cook grabbed the driver's side door. Several shots were fired at Cook, who later died of his injuries.

On Tuesday, Ottawa's Special Investigations Unit confirmed that a Calgary man who drowned in the Rideau River was a suspect wanted in the shooting. Muhab Sultanaly Sultan was wanted on charges of second-degree murder.

In a statement posted to a memorial fundraising page on Thursday, the Cook's family said they are grateful for the "dedication and diligence" of police officers handling the case.

"We would like to personally thank the London and Ottawa police departments for their dedication and diligence in investigating the death of our son Jeremy," they said.

"Our family is putting our faith and complete trust in the many police departments involved and the job that they are doing to find the truth."

They added: "We believe there will be JUSTICE FOR JEREMY."

Police are still searching for information on two other suspects who were in the car at the time of the shooting.

One man is described as having very short hair, and was wearing a black jacket or shirt and fitted hat. Authorities said they are also hoping to speak with the third man seen in the vehicle, but have not released a description.

Anyone with more information is asked to contact police at 519-661-5670, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
