A group of competitive canoeists plans to honour the message they recently found in a bottle bobbing in Victoria’s inner harbour.

A piece of paper inside said something to the effect of "if you find this bottle, please throw it back in the water, my wish is to see the world," says Graham Henry, one-sixth of the 'Soggy Beavers' canoe team.

The bottle also contains what appears to be cremated human remains.

The paddlers have nicknamed the possible remains 'Ash.'

"There's really no way he's going to see much of the world (in the harbour)," Tanner Ockenden added.

That's why they decided to bring the bottle along in June when they race 1,200 kilometres from Port Townsend, Wash. to Ketchikan, Alaska.

Not only will Ash get to visit Alaska, but the men hope the bottle can be dropped far enough north in the Pacific Ocean that the currents take it all the way to Asia.
