MILLVILLE, N.B. -- A fire has destroyed the fire hall, the town council chambers and firefighting equipment in a New Brunswick village.

Volunteer firefighters from several nearby departments responded to the blaze in Millville, about 60 kilometres northwest of Fredericton, at about 3:30 a.m. on Monday.

The RCMP have not ruled out foul play.

The Mounties say all the equipment inside of the building was destroyed, except for one fire truck that was on loan to the community of Nackawic after a blaze at that fire station just one week ago.

A vehicle had crashed into the fire hall in Nackawic, roughly 20 kilometres south of Millville, setting it ablaze.

Neil La Croix, the acting fire chief for the Keswick Valley Volunteer Fire Department, says while Millville and Nackawic are recovering from those fires, other volunteer fire departments including his own will be providing equipment and firefighting assistance.

He said trucks and equipment are being loaned to Millville from various fire departments in New Brunswick, and the workload of other volunteer firefighters in the area could grow.

"I know the firefighters in the area are a little more stressed that they might have to respond to help out," he said. "But we're always willing to help other departments, especially in times of need."
