1. Anti-terror: The federal government will be announcing its new anti-terror bill in the House of Commons. Sources told CTV News the proposed laws would allow police to detain suspected terrorists for longer as well as make it a crime to promote terrorism.

2. Cutting it back: The days of cheques and “Ralphbucks” for every resident appear to be over in Alberta. The crunch in oil prices has prompted Premier Jim Prentice and his cabinet ministers to take a paycut as the province struggles with a collapse in global oil prices.

3. En francais? The backlash continues after Montreal nurses were told they could only converse in English on their breaks or in the Emergency Room.

4. Drink up: The boil water advisory has finally been lifted in Winnipeg. The city had been under the advisory since Tuesday when tests showed E. coli and other bacteria in the water. Later tests confirmed the water was safe to drink.

5. Bragging rights: Sorry Western Canada but Eastern Canada is where it’s at. According to The Economist Intelligence Unit, Toronto is the best place to live in the world. A close second? Montreal. No other Canadian city placed in the top 10.
