The Toronto Blue Jays are playing baseball in October. The last time that happened, mullets were a thing, bushy moustaches were a bigger thing and the Blue Jays were not only in the playoffs – they were the best team in baseball.

A lot has changed since 1992-93, but now that the Jays are back in the playoffs, it's time to unpack your old "World Series Champions" T-shirts and start rooting for the home team, nineties style.

To start, you'll need something with the vintage logo. Not the angry Jay logo of 2004, or the muscular ball-tossing Jay of 2000, or even the maple leaf-backed Jay of 1997 – you need the original logo, circa 1977. That logo looks much like the one the Jays sport today, except without the "TORONTO BLUE JAYS" text and circle wrapped around it. The blues in the old-school Blue Jays head are also a few shades lighter than the colours used today.

Next, if you're a male baseball fan, it's time to get Movember started early. Grow that moustache out, big and bushy, and get to work sculpting your mullet. If you need some mullet-growing guidance, use this photo of 1992 World Series MVP Pat Borders as your model. (Note: a cut-off Jays shirt is also a great touch. If your old Jays T-shirt has sleeves, feel free to chop them off.)

And when it comes to moustaches, it's hard to beat the one on Jays' pitcher Jack Morris, shown here at training camp in Florida on Feb. 26, 1992. Pitcher David Wells is to his right.

If you're in your twenties or early thirties, there just might be some old photos of a pint-sized you, decked out in 1990s Jays gear, buried in one of the family photo albums. Now is the perfect time to pass that tradition on to your kids (if you have them), by decking them out in the most garish Jays attire possible. Dress them up, then take lots of photos. They'll thank you for it in 20 years.

Even if you don't have a Blue Jays baby picture, Twitter's got you covered. Many users have been sharing their old photos online, in anticipation of the Jays' return to the post-season.

Others have been showing off their World Series memorabilia, including shirts, hats, photos and collectible pins.

And if you're really in the throwback mood, head to the grocery store and "catch the taste" of some McCain frozen punch, just like the Jays' Roberto Alomar did in this oh-so-nineties commercial. The 20-year-old commercial is a cult favourite for some Jays fans.

Follow these guidelines and you'll be ready to cheer on the Jays in vintage '90s style, either from the comfort of your couch, or from the stands at the Rogers Centre (but we'll call it SkyDome, for old-time's sake).
