Here are the five things you need to know this Wednesday: the world’s soccer federation has been rocked by a series of arrests and raids this morning; cancer rates in Canada are expected to dramatically rise by 2030; Ontario teachers are heading back to class after a labour relations board ruling; Hamilton is fighting back against Canada Post’s plans to cut home delivery; and an 88-year-old Calgary woman was honoured for her secret past.

Plus, today we're bringing a roundup of the best amusement parks that adrenaline junkies should hit up this summer in "Dream Big Wednesday".

1. FIFA raids: FIFA, the world’s soccer federation, has been rocked by a series of arrests and criminal proceedings launched this morning. Several officials, including North America’s representative, were arrested at a swanky Swiss hotel. Swiss prosecutors have also opened criminal proceedings into the voting for the 2018 and 2022 World Cup in Russia and Qatar respectively.

2. Rising rates: A new study by the Canadian Cancer Society predicts that the number of cancer diagnoses in Canada will rise by roughly 40 per cent in the next 15 years, largely because the number of Canadians who are aged 65 and older will double.

3. Back to class: More than 70,000 Ontario high school students are heading back to class today after weeks of job action by their teachers. The strikes were deemed illegal by a labour relations board.

4. Fighting Canada Post: The city of Hamilton has taken Canada Post to court for refusing to respect a bylaw that would require $200 permits for installing community mailboxes on its land. But a lawyer for the Crown corporation says the Ontario city has no right to block the mail service’s plan to end door-to-door delivery.

5. Secret hero: An 88-year-old Calgary woman was honoured by the British High Consulate on Tuesday for her work intercepting Japanese and German messages during the Second World War. Marion Booth was forced to keep her past hidden from her husband and children for a quarter of a century because of the classified nature of her job.

And one more thing for ‘Dream Big’ Wednesday …
