VERNON, B.C. - A man fatally shot by Vernon RCMP has been identified as a Vernon resident.

Christopher Klim died Thursday after police were called to his home on a warrant under the Mental Health Act.

Officers say the 24-year-old came at them with a knife and when a Taser didn't subdue the man, they shot at him.

Klim's grandparents Harry and Shirley released a statement saying they appreciate the support and help they've received dealing with their grandson's mental illness over the years.

They say they don't blame anyone for what happened and are thankful no one else was physically harmed in the situation.

An independent investigator from Calgary police has been called in to review the shooting. That probe will be monitored by the RCMP public complaints commissioner.
