ANKARA, Turkey - A moderate earthquake shook eastern Turkey Sunday, the Anatolia news agency reported. There were no immediate reports injuries, but officials said homes were demolished in at least two villages.
The quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1, was centered in Agri province, bordering Iran, about 530 miles east of Ankara, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Anatolia reported the quake was felt in several areas around Agri.
Earthquakes are frequent in Turkey, which lies on active fault lines. Two devastating earthquakes hit northwestern Turkey in 1999, killing some 18,000 people.
