Elgin County OPP and St. Thomas Police have cordoned off the area surrounding a detention pond just on the southeast end of the city for a sudden death investigation. Officers from both police forces are on scene, and OPP told CTV News it is tied to a previous investigation. Around 2:45 p.m., OPP released more information on the investigation. On Sunday just before 11 a.m., emergency services were called to a missing persons report of a 58-year-old Central Elgin person. The missing person was found dead in St. Thomas just over an hour later, at 12:13 p.m. The public is asked to avoid the area of Elm Street and Centennial Avenue as the investigation continues.
