Is it a summertime performance art project? A marketing ploy?

A group of Torontonians want to know: Who is the masked bride?

A woman dressed in a wedding gown and wearing a white mask has been spotted around the city in recent weeks, according to Facebook users who are trying to figure out the mystery.

Last week, a Facebook user posted a photo of the masked figure, sitting in a park with a piece of black luggage by her side. The woman, according to the Facebook user’s description, appeared to be writing notes and then discarding them at her feet.

“So I’ve been seeing this masked bride around the city … she has been writing and then leaving strange notes (or diary entries). Anyone else seen her or know what this is about?” he wrote.

The Facebook user also provided a closeup shot of one of the notes, which is dated June 30, 2016 and addressed to “whom it may concern.” The profanity-laden note, written in cursive, makes mention of singer-songwriter Nick Cave, and is partially written in French.

The post prompted a wave of comments, including others who say they too, have spotted the bride about town.

Some shrugged it off as a ploy, suggesting it was a “brilliant” way to market a play or street performance.

“Very likely some sort of art project,” wrote one Facebook user. “There’s always a million of them in Toronto all over .. it’s just a matter of who notices they’re there.”

Others suggested it was live action role-playing, commonly known as LARPing.

Regardless, many were just happy to play along.

“Love our city for this kind of stuff,” wrote one commenter.

“Still waiting for some real hard facts on this phenomenon,” wrote another.

One commenter wondered if more than one person is dressing up in the white gown.

Another user was both fascinated and afraid of the mystery bride.

“I’m scared. I’m reading this half asleep at 5 am,” he wrote. “I’m gonna have nightmares.”

One environmentally minded Facebook user was not happy with the bride’s actions.

“Not real impressed with her littering!!!! Sheesh!!”

Another sighting of the masked bride on July 14 placed her on a Starbucks patio in downtown Toronto.
