What is your favorite makeup look from 20th century Germany? The nation's beauty history is in the spotlight thanks to the latest installment of the cult "100 Years of Beauty" series.

Starring model Brooke Williams, the film takes us on a whistle-stop tour of German looks over the course of the past century.

Things kick off with a demure approach, with 1910s Brooke wearing her hair in a simple bob, with rosy lips and a natural-looking brow. But fast forward just 10 years and the Jazz Age has reached Europe, seeing her sport a glamorous flapper-style wavy hairdo with a fashionable deep red lip.

The 1930s heralded a much more innocent look, with braided pigtails and a bare-faced aesthetic calling to mind the country's traditional lederhosen costume and alpine lifestyle. But it isn't long before sophistication makes a comeback, and the wartime decade of the 1940s sees a return to scarlet lipstick, pale eyeliner and a chic updo held together by bobby pins.

Post World War II the nation was carved up into East and West Germany, leading to dual trends. While the 1950s in the West sees Brooke sporting loose curls and bold lipstick, the Eastern aesthetic is more demure, calling for a headscarf and subtle makeup. The Swinging Sixties in the West call for heavy eyeshadow, glossy lips and a chic ponytail worn low with a center part. Over in the East the look is bolder, with funky headscarves and big earrings accessorized with pale lipstick and a fierce cat eye.

Boho chic reaches both zones in time for the 1970s, with long, natural-looking hair and simple accessories such as headbands and neck scarves popular on both sides of the wall. Punk, too, hits Germany with force, although the mullet cut, neon pink lipstick and sweat band of the West bears little resemblance to the full-on goth aesthetic of the East, complete with white makeup, a nose ring and some gravity-defying hair.

The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 sees a nation reunited, and the look of the decade is classic Nineties, with lip liner, hoop earrings and a feathery updo all featuring. The turn of the Millennium brings about more of a low-key approach, focused on light lipgloss, lined eyes and heavy bangs, while the look for this decade is fresh-faced and pretty.
