Trained baristas may have the edge when it comes to latte art, but a new tool lets the rest of us create edible drawings that are just as impressive. The Cinnibird, a pen that makes it easy to decorate food with ground spices, will soon be launched following successful crowdfunding campaigns on Kickstarter and Indiegogo.

Presentation has always been an important part of the culinary arts, but in the era of Instagram and foodie-ism, appreciation for dishes' appearance seems to have reached new heights. These days, starred chefs aren't the only ones looking to turn their edible creations into elaborate works of art.

Designed for aspiring culinary artists, the CinniBird makes edible decorating as easy as drawing with a normal pen. The device may be filled with any ground spice, allowing users to doodle in cinnamon on cakes and lattes, or in cumin on a plate of couscous. Users simply hold a button while moving the pen over the dish.

After a successful campaign on Indiegogo this spring, the CinniBird is recruiting additional supporters on Kickstarter, where it has already met its $5,000 goal. While rewards for several pledge levels have already sold out, it is still possible to reserve one of the first CinniBird pens by contributing $45 or more. The first shipments are due in spring 2015.
