TORONTO -- Homegrown brand Soia and Kyo brought a Scandinavian-inspired flavour to its cool-weather designs.

The Montreal-based outerwear label used the frozen Norwegian landscape as creative fuel for the fall-winter collection unveiled at World MasterCard Fashion Week on Thursday.

"Norway, for me, it's an amazing country," said Ilan Elfassy, founder and creative director of Soia & Kyo.

"When you go to the mountains and you see the snow, you see the trees, you see the river -- it's part of the softness in the collection."

The label translated the landscape into the shapes showcased in the new line, with the liner notes describing the garments as featuring "rounded silhouettes, dropped shoulders and long hemlines."

With a palette of neutral mocha and camel hues accented with burgundy, navy, yellow and grey, the collection stuck with simplicity in its largely traditional assembly of hooded jackets and cosy coats.

The boldest statement was in the use of graphic patterns, notably a soft-textured houndstooth plaid print.
