An 18-year-old Pakistani tea seller has been vaulted to fame after a photograph of him was posted on social media and went viral.

Arshad Khan, a “chai wala” or tea seller, had his picture taken by Jiah Ali months ago while she was at the Sunday bazaar in Islamabad. She posted the photo on Instagram on Saturday with the simple caption, “Hot-tea.”

The photo showed Khan’s piercing blue eyes looking straight into the camera as he poured tea at the stand. Ali’s photo has garnered more than 17,000 likes and 2,000 comments.

According to a post by Ali on Facebook, after the photo was posted on Instagram she was able to track Khan down at the market. She was able to find out that Khan is from Mardan, in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and has been working at the market for three months.

Khan said he was overwhelmed by all of the attention he was getting but was happy with the overnight fame, Ali wrote.

Khan was later offered a modelling contract with online Pakistani retailer Fitin after they saw the photo of him. The online retailer currently has photos of Khan up on their website with the quote, “Chai wala is no more chai wala. Now he is fashion wala.”

The retailer announced on Facebook that Khan would be promoting their clothes as a model and shared photos of him with his hair styled and a clean shaven face, keeping the moustache.

Twitter users have been sharing the photo and using the hashtag #ChaiWala, commenting on his “handsome” good looks.
