If you're looking for a quick and effective update to your wardrobe for the new year then it might be time to accessorize. The Spring/Summer 2016 catwalks were a haven of embellishment, with jewelry, bags, belts and gloves stealing the limelight. Here are three of the key trends for the new season.

Bags as belts

Microscopic bags and purses are having a moment, and if you want to take the trend even further, then make like Kenzo and attach yours to your belt for the ultimate style statement. This look was also seen at Alexis Mabille, where miniature rucksacks were clipped on to geisha-style wraparound belts. Whether you choose to strap them to your person or simply carry them in the more traditional sense, tiny bags are the future, for now.

Glasses

Geek chic was huge on the Spring/Summer 2016 catwalks, and there is no more effective way to channel the vibe than with some intellectual-looking eyewear. Emilio Pucci's glasses were so big that they resembled scuba masks, while Gucci hit the headlines with its 70s-style oversized librarian glasses. The bold aesthetic also applied to sunglasses, with Dolce & Gabbana and Giamba both opting for unconventional styles.

Perspex heels

Blocky, Perspex heels are set to be big news this season, if London Fashion Week was anything to go by. Coloured semi-transparent heels and soles were the key to the playful and futuristic aesthetic on show at David Koma and Mary Katrantzou, among others.
