With flavour names such as “Cinder(Nut)Ella,” “Breakfast in Bed,” and “Tru-Doh” it’s no wonder that a Montreal bakery is becoming the talk (or taste) of the town with their unique “DoughNats.”

Nathalie Shtern, the owner of DoughNats bakery, told CTV Montreal on Sunday that she created her first doughnut back in cooking school. She said her creations never looked like regular donuts – they were always smaller – so she decided to just go with it and make a business out of it.

Shtern said her DoughNats are somewhere in between the size of a regular doughnut and a Tim Hortons’ Timbit. The bakery’s manager, Candice Sheeri, said they’re the perfect size because customers can scarf them down in just two or three bites.

“Because they're small you can actually try more than one and you're not eating one big doughnut,” Sheeri said. “So it's nice because then you can have a little bit of everything.”

With a new lineup of mouth-watering flavours released every season and special flavours of the month offered for a limited time only, there is always something new to try at the bustling bakery.

Shtern described some of her standout creations, such as the one called “Movie Time,” which consists of brown butter glaze, buttered popcorn and caramel drizzle.

“It’s the perfect combination of sweet and salty,” she explained.

The bakery’s DoughNat named after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is another popular treat among customers.

“We named it Trudeau because it’s a classic glazed, chocolate glazed,” Shtern said. “And it happens to be the best looking doughnut too so it’s a good combination for Justin.”

The bakery owners also pride themselves on accommodating their customers’ different food sensitivities. DoughNats will make their flavours vegan, baked and gluten-free upon request.
