If you're looking for love in 2016, some dating experts say Sunday is the prime time to launch your search for a soulmate.

According to online dating site Match.com, there is a 60 per cent spike in new online dating profiles between Christmas and Valentines Day.

And, the website says, the jump in new users is concentrated on the first Sunday of January, which the company dubs "Dating Sunday."

Sunday is the busiest day of the week for singles to log onto dating websites, a Match.com blog post says, and the first Sunday of the new year has even more users than usual.

That's because of a combination of breakups over the holidays and New Year's resolutions to find love, the site says.

Other online dating services have also reported increases in traffic at this time of year. Zoosk.com says their new registrations increase by 18 per cent in the first week of January. And Plenty of Fish has even narrowed the ideal dating time down to an exact hour.

According to the Plenty of Fish blog, Sunday at 3 p.m. PT is the perfect moment to set up a profile and begin reaching out to prospective partners.

January also marks a fresh start for the online dating industry, after a year that saw a high-profile hack into Ashley Madison, and a hefty $48,000 Plenty of Fish fine for violating anti-spam rules.

The year of 2015 also marked the launch of a dating website for Disney-lovers, and the successful Wall Street debut of Match Group, the company behind Tinder, Match.com and OK Cupid.
