A transport truck driving on Highway 7/8 Westbound in Kitchener, Ont. caught fire near the Homer Watson Boulevard exit on Sunday morning. Dashcam footage obtained by CTV News shows a truck on the shoulder of Highway 7/8 just before 8:30 a.m. with one of its rear wheels engulfed in flames, accompanied by thick, billowing smoke. A fire truck is also seen in the video blocking traffic from getting too close to the truck and flames. A spokesperson for Kitchener Fire confirmed to CTV News they did attend the scene for traffic control, and the fire was quickly extinguished. “The tractor trailer had overheated brakes that then ignited the trailer tires,” the spokesperson said in an email. “This generated the heavy black smoke that would have been visible.” There is no word on any injuries. The affected lanes have reopened.
